I wanted to share my experience with a debt collector called Recovery Partners in case anyone else is in the same boat. They started calling me constantly about an old medical bill.

At first, I tried to ignore it, but then they started calling multiple times a day, even after I asked them to stop calling my cell phone. They also called my workplace, which was incredibly embarrassing, and I had to tell them to stop. One caller even vaguely threatened that they could take legal action if I didn’t pay immediately.

It felt really overwhelming until I started looking into my rights. I found out that a lot of what they were doing, like the excessive calls and the threats, can be considered harassment under a federal law called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

I finally sent them a written request to stop all communication (a cease and desist letter) via certified mail, and I’ve been documenting every single call. Since then, the calls have finally slowed down.

I also came across this article that breaks down exactly what tactics to watch for from them and explains your rights, which was super helpful:

Has anyone else dealt with this company? What finally got them to stop for you?
