Do you have a passion for arts education and a talent for engaging young learners? Join our Education team at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center as the Museum Tour Coordinator (K-12) , where you'll help create memorable, meaningful experiences for students through guided tours, hands-on learning, and collaboration with educators. The K–12 Tour Coordinator develops, coordinates, and oversees the tours for K-12 students and assists with Education Initiatives. This year-round position reports to the Manager of Education Initiatives.

 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Develop age-appropriate K–12 tours for the Arts Center and the Art Preserve as necessary to respond to changing exhibitions, educator requests, or feedback from staff.
  2. Train Museum Educators, Docents, and other staff as required on Arts Center and Art Preserve tours. 
  3. Preside over K-12 field trips by supporting where needed, including touring and workshop assistance, observing tours, and providing constructive feedback to Museum Educators and Docents. (Fall/Winter/Spring)  
  4. Work with Senior Education Specialist to determine appropriate workshop opportunities for K–12 field trips (Fall/Winter/Spring).  
  5. Participate in the planning and implementation of the annual professional development event for K–12 educators (Teacher Recharge: Fall).
  6. Provide support for established partnerships with SASD, local charter schools, and other schools. Assist with updating and writing curricula as needed. 
  7. Promote and coordinate usage of existing resources in response to field trip inquiries from homeschool groups, scouting groups, camp and church groups, or any other multi-age groups requesting a field trip experience. Collaborate with the Education team to develop new resources as needed. (Fall/Winter/Spring)  
  8. Support adult tours booked through the Event & Hospitality Coordinator. 
  9. Support Public Programming events at openings, community events, ExAIR residencies, and member events.
  10. Maintain knowledge of current Arts Center exhibitions and Art Preserve collections, and attend weekly Public Programming meetings. 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Interest in learning about artist-built environments, folk art, and contemporary art
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries and accept feedback.
  • Excellent communication and time management.
Qualifications:
  • At least 1 year of administrative experience and 2 years of working with children required. Supervisory experience is helpful.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree in arts management, museum studies, communications, performing or visual arts, or education preferred.
  • K-12 teaching certificate and experience are highly desired.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Hmong highly desired.

Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Able to deal with problems involving few concrete variables in standard situations.

The position is office/art gallery-based, and the noise level is usually moderate. May occasionally work inside or outside at events where the noise level could be moderate to loud.

The full-time schedule for this year-round role includes daytime hours Monday–Friday and occasionally Saturday and Sunday to meet staffing and/or event needs.
