Job Description

Under the direction and guidance of your manager, you will help promote and provide patient safety and companionship. You will help patients of all ages including pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. As a Patient Safety Assistant, your role includes: 80% observing and preventing unsafe patient behavior/activity, 10% communicating with the nursing team your patient’s status, 5% accompanying patients for diagnostic tests, 5% maintaining a clean and orderly environment. Responsibilities include observing and reporting patient activities and behaviors, displaying appropriate response intervention to assure patient safety, communicating clearly with patient and patient family, timely communication with nurse regarding patient status and observations, ensuring patient confidentiality and safety procedures, providing services in accordance with policy and procedure manuals, proficient oral and written communication, maintaining a neat and orderly work environment, demonstrating safe patient handling including patient turns and transfers, assisting patients with activities of daily living, utilizing safe work practices and personal protective equipment, assisting with orientation of new sitters. Requirements include high school diploma or GED, healthcare delivery experience preferred, home telephone or telephone contact, availability to work on short notice, ability to stand or walk considerably, lift light-weight objects and assist with heavier tasks, and ability to assume minor straining or fatiguing positions.
