Position Summary: Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Strategic Advancement Operations, the Senior Associate Director for Prospect Management and Research will execute a strategic vision for research and moves management of Morehouse College’s most promising prospects for significant financial support. This position will establish efforts vital to Morehouse’s campaign, including a comprehensive prospect management system, innovative research infrastructure, and robust prospect discovery program.

The Senior Associate Director, Prospect Management and Research (PMR) will be responsible for providing in-depth research to inform board, volunteer, and campaign committee leadership decisions. Based upon comprehensive research, this individual will help drive mutually agreed upon cultivation and solicitation strategies for campaign donors and prospects.

The Senior Associate Director, PMR is a data-driven professional responsible for managing prospects and portfolios. S/he will develop a series of strategies and tactics to coordinate portfolios, solicitation plans, and specific prospects for central and unit-based fundraising initiatives. S/he also ensures that the pipeline activity is in alignment with business policies and stage aging requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required and advanced degree preferred.
  2. 3+ years relevant experience in fundraising operations, advancement services, prospect research, prospect management or related advancement activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with a large research institution or billion dollar-plus campaigns is preferred.
  2. Experience with Advancement CRM and data visualization tools is preferred.
  3. Proven track record of leveraging data analysis to drive significant business impact preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Strong strategic thinking, research, writing and verbal presentation skills; organizational ability and initiative.
  2. The ability to analyze and synthesize information, manage several projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  3. Effective communicator and collaborator working in a cross-functional environment.
  4. Strong project and time management skills with attention to details.
  5. Ability to lead and influence non-hierarchical, cross-functional work groups to drive to consensus on definitions and data usage.
  6. Data-driven professional with demonstrated analytical, project design/management and problem-solving skills required.
  7. Ability to perform thorough analysis of complex data, draw sound conclusions, and devise actionable strategies.
  8. Continuously identify opportunities to better meet business needs.
  9. Proficient in Excel; strong working knowledge of Microsoft Desktop Tools (Word, Excel, etc.).

Physical Demands: This position is largely a sedentary role; however, it requires some travel, minimum lifting of less than 10 lbs., and some long standing and walking.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the creation, dissemination, and utilization of research and prospect management efforts to significantly expand the prospect base, strengthen the prospect pipeline, and enhance prospect management and the solicitation pipeline to maximize fundraising success.
  2. Serve as the principal authority on prospect management, development research, philanthropic trends, and patterns of wealth and industry. Provide vision, best practice recommendations and direction for effective resources and tools.
  3. Oversee creation and implementation of a donor-centric prospect management system (policy, procedures, tracking and reporting) to facilitate pipeline activity for all fundraising activity in collaboration with the Associate Vice President for Strategic Advancement Operations.
  4. Develop prospect management strategies, business processes and protocols, specifically those activities focused on informing and motivating portfolio managers to move major gift prospects through the pipeline continuum.
  5. Monitor fundraising performance through the management of contacts, strategy plans, solicitation pipelines, performance metrics, etc.
  6. Analyze and synthesize accumulated prospect information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity and linkages to campus.
  7. Oversee creation and implementation of prospect identification services, ensuring that all frontline fundraising teams have an ongoing stream of prospects for discovery and engagement.
  8. Create and implement metrics and benchmarks to manage and evaluate work volume, work quality and collaboration effectiveness.
  9. Maintain an overall knowledge of Morehouse College’s top prospects and identify strategies for creatively engaging individuals and cohorts of prospects and donors.
  10. Ensure adherence to the ethical and confidentiality guidelines for CASE and APRA, as well as Morehouse College’s standards for ethics and data privacy.
